June 2021 Vegetable Wonderland, The Chefs Garden, Farmer Lee Jones, Healthier Vegetable Recipes

We explored farm fresh recipes in 2021. Whether from a farmer’s market, your garden or by delivery – fresh vegetables are a wonderful way to celebrate June. We were introduced to Farmer Lee Jones @TheChefsGarden. We got to visit the vegetable wonderland he and his family created. We tried recipes from a Fried Zucchini Po Boy to Carrot Pesto as we found ways to add some veggie zip to our mealtimes.

Summertime Poodle Potato Salad was our most popular recipe. It adds new texture and a touch of crispness to that old, tired potato salad. A great choice for those holiday picnics.

June 2020 – Find Family Farms, Sweet Grass Dairy Charcuterie, Healthy Recipes

During 2020 with the pandemic in full force, we wanted to explore how we could support Family Farms by sourcing food directly from the farmers. We talked with Andy Chapman of EatYAll about helping food growers and makers and also met virtually, with Mallory Sofferin of Sweet Grass Dairy to learn how to make a Restaurant Quality Cheese Board at home. From healthy recipes like Seafood Ceviche to Baked Sweet Pepper Zucchini Pancakes we had a good time keeping our time at home busy and sweet.

Making a Restaurant Quality Cheese Board was a fun activity.  This is a simple cheese board was easy to prepare using 3 different cheeses. The ingredients are prepared in attractive shapes and highlight various textures. Its comfort food style was very popular with our community.

June 2018 – Honey, Beekeeper Extraordinaire, Honey Recipes
Looking back on June 2018, we learned about beekeeping from Beekeeper, Dave Sattler. Our visit to his haven for honeybees at Prophetstown State Park taught us much about honey. Then, we savored a number of honey-based recipes with the Honey Drizzled Bruschetta being a hit with our Tastemakers and very buzzworthy.

Farm Fresh Beet Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing was made from our homegrown beet greens (which were grown inside). The combination of beets greens, spiced pecans and creamy cheese crumbles was enough to enliven our tastebuds.
